Carl “DOC” Lawson, one of the founding members of Snatch, Inc. has music career that spans over three decades. His instruments of command are trombone, flute, and Latin percussion. He also fills in as back-up vocalist. He has performed with many local bands and musicians.
His career highlights include performances with Red Saunders and his Orchestra. While with this talented group Carl helped backup artists such as Sam Cooke, Tyrone Davis, Mahalia Jackson, The Four tops, Lou Rawls, The Dells and three time Grammy Award Winner Bobby "Blue" Bland. He also performed with his schoolmate Maurice White of EARTH, WIND, & FIRE. Other highlights include many performances at The Apollo Theater in New York City and at the Regal Theater in Chicago.
Doc is known for inciting audiences to join him while he dances and plays. His other trademark performances include rip-roaring melodies, hauntingly inescapable slide trombone solos and crazy scat slides.
Dr. Lawson currently is the principal of Florence B. Price Elementary School of Fine and Performing Arts in Chicago. He received his M.S. in Education from Chicago State University, a Master of Music degree from VanderCook College of Music, and PhD in Administration from Southern Illinois University.
